2020: A Year in Review

2020 was an absolute shit show. Instead of getting back into all the ways it sucked (and I think we can collectively agree, there were so many reasons), I wanted to focus on the good parts of the year. This year might have been crappy, but there were plenty of moments in it that were wonderful and deserve recognition. So, without further ado...here is my year in review with highlights of the most exciting moments!

This was the year I learned how to listen to my limits more. It was also the year I learned how to stand up for what I believe in and how to say enough and walk away from toxic situations. It was also the year I learned about divine understanding, and how forgiveness is more for us than for the person who offended or hurt us.

I started weeding my garden, so to speak, so that the positive things I planted there and wanted to grow there weren't choked out at the very root by negativity.

I wrote more this year than I did the year before! I've actually never kept track of how many words I've written years prior, but in 2020, I've written 77,504 new words! I know in 2019 the number was much lower, as I wasn't able to sit at my desk and write, but I'm proud of the words I've written this year.

Mel and Steph of House21 UK read and reviewed Rebel Soul, and had me as a guest on their podcast show to discuss the book and my writing. You can have a listen to the podcast here.

And last but not least, I published my 12th novel! It'd been two years since my last book release, and I am so glad I dropped that release this year. It makes me feel like I achieved something, after all! Most of my goals for 2020 were left behind, but I did publish one book like I set out to do.

Now it's New Years Eve, the final day of 2020, and I couldn't be more excited to say farewell to this year and embrace a new one! I'm not expecting all of our problems to vanish when the ball drops, but I'm hoping that at some point this year, things will start to feel normal again.

Since I'm not sure how long that will take, exactly...I opted to go with a word for 2021 instead of a list of new year resolutions. I chose "Resilience" as my word for 2021.

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. It is what allows us to not only bounce back, but to bounce forward. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 is the quality that allows us to overcome challenges, obstacles, hardships and adversity, instead of being defeated by them. ⁣

I won't lie, I felt very defeated by the events of 2020. Not just the global pandemic, but all the little bad things that happened and piled up. In 2021, I'm hoping to be even more resilient.

Peace out 2020, here's to 2021!
